How You Use Your Platform Matters

Monday Greetings to all women of valor and courage who have decided to stand for something! I know that’s a long greeting, but I have been standing up for the rights of women, children and the elderly for a very long time. Along the way, I’ve often reached out to other like-minded souls to ask for help in carrying the torch for human dignity to the people and many have reached out to me. I’m here to tell you that when you’re broken and need mental, physical and spiritual healing, you’re not too proud to beg:)

You see, ego might want us to believe that we’re perfect beings, but the truth is, we’re not and we’re never going to be.

Thanks to my dear sister friend and colleague, Pauline Haynes who answered my call during the time when she was celebrating her birthday ! Now, that’s a special woman of substance and authentic truths. I’ve been fortunate enough over the years to connect and commensurate with many women and men who are held in such high regard by their friends and clients. And didn’t she give y’all some wonderful, inspirational food for thought?

Y’all know through our connection that I’m a lover of Mother Nature, and with that being said, when I’m broken and in need of healing and recovery, I seek the balance and beauty of that wonderful ambiance where in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. No man, woman or child is an island and we can easily neglect ourselves when we care too much about the well-being of others. I’m of the mindset that one can never offer too much compassion and empathy and that’s how I roll, but there comes a time when we have to seek balance. There is only one perfect being and even he rested on the Sabbath.

I needed to humble myself and honor my purpose these last months and so I turned to my faith and took a step back from all the ugliness, racist rhetoric and human divide that has become social media, in order to reclaim my focus and hold steadfast to my mission that empowers the voice of the powerless.

I remain authentic in my deliverance of humanities truths that a lot of us might not be receptive to, but we know this is our reality. Many people, including celebrities, politicians, musicians, talk show hosts and pastors stand by the popular adage that~ “If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything.” People, It’s time to stand.

I encourage a world’s people that how you use your platform matters. If you have a platform, use it for the common good of all mankind. Don’t stay silent while people lives are in peril. It takes a village to raise a child and we are losing many of our innocent children to the escalating violence in the streets and from many of those who have taken an oath to serve and protect. It’s going to take the courage and compassion of many villagers to help save an innocent life and hold people accountable for their wrongdoings.

So much social media hate broke me down for a minute, but trust and believe, as a woman of faith, born black and proud, who was raised during the discriminatory hate and racial divide of  a Jim Crow Law in the turbulent 50s & 60s, I was born protesting! I’ve witnessed miracles of change, brought about from an heartwrenching loss of life and sacrifice- regular decent, caring and hard working folks. Folks who are just a deserving as any other.

For decades, my people and those standing in solidarity, have managed to rise up on the wings of belief and faith, carried by the strengths of the ancestors, to put in the work for much needed change. I will continue to do whatever I can use my voice in this cry for freedoms legacy.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support. Monthly postings have begun at Authentic Woman because I’m tackling other projects to expand our reach here and hopefully get some fiction/non fiction works into the hands of editors &publishers.

  1. Clara, you are right. There are tons of FREE platforms available to us; unfortunately; they are being used for foolish banter vs. making a difference. The goal of my new YouTube channel is to allow people to share their thoughts, feelings and opinions. And I’m working to make that happen.

  2. You made several good points, but the one I want to focus on for a moment is the one about taking care of ourselves. You are right. We can easily neglect ourselves. It happens when we are so busy doing all the “have to’s” of life: I have to get this for my client. I have to make sure my child has that. I have to get dinner ready by X time. I have to help such and such. Many of these “have to’s” are things we desire and because we think they are essential, we make sure they get done.

Yet, we don’t place those same “have-to’s” on our own well-being. We don’t make time for what would enhance our own lives, whether that is proper exercise, eating right, rest and relaxation, recreation and fun, etc. And we end up broke, broken down, and depleted. I know; I’m on a journey of recovering from putting myself last on the priority list.

I applaud you for taking the time you needed!

    • Thank you, Monica. These are such trying time for all human and especially so, I feel for those of us out here trying to help make a better world by helping others make better choices in their lives. It truly does take a village! And you are right, we neglect those same “have-to’s” when it comes to taking care of our own needs. I’m somebody’s mom, grandma and great grandma and so I have no choice but to take a bit of ‘me’ time whenever it’s warranted:) I’m so elated to have you as an upcoming guest at Authentic Woman. You are appreciated.
